You may have noticed that there’s a large gap in my DA entries. And in my deviants. i.e., a two-year gap.

To address the journal entries first, they’re a real hassle to type. I start ranting in my head, but by the time I sit down at the computer, I’ve generally worked through everything, and there’s so much going on in there that I couldn’t be bothered typing it all down. If you’ve been reading my LiveJournal, you’ll see that I’ve recently tried to address this problem, by stopping myself from biting off more than I can chew. Entries are still going to be the same length, but not so scattered.

The other thing is that… I don’t trust DA. Not at all. I read over the user agreement, and almost had a heart attack. I remember parts of it were things like “you agree to let DA do whatever the heck we want with your image”. I believe they have updated the user license agreement recently? I haven’t read any DA news for quite a while, so I’m not sure if these parts have been fixed/changed. Still, I’ve heard a lot of worry about copyright issues & such… When I first signed up for DA, I decided that the only things I would post would be things like fanart, or other images that I didn’t intend to use commercially….I don’t do a lot of fanart, these days.

I’ve also got a bad habit of not finishing images. Generally, the only things that I take the time to complete, these days, are images that I do for other people, which I don’t want to post publicly on a site like DA. Everything else falls into ‘scraps’, which in my opinion aren’t worth posting. There was also the ‘art revolution’ that I underwent a couple of months ago, when I realised that everything I had drawn up until that date was bad, with only a few exceptions. ([link]) I didn’t have the heart to do any work on any of the images I had drawn before that time. I really wanted to just burn the lot of them. While I didn’t resort to arson, I did start again afresh. If it was before 2006, I didn’t want to know about it. Another load of images that will never be posted.


On top of this, more and more I want to start making my own manga. This is taking up a lot of my drawing time, but because it’s still in the ‘concept’ stage, it’s mostly just rough character designs & head sketches.

I’d like to start up a new site to publish the manga, and all my other images on… The problem is that costs money, and I haven’t done any research, so I don’t know if there are any free ones I can trust with the content. I’d really like to be hosted from home, by my parent’s company, but we don’t have the equipment to do that, yet. Even if we did, it would not be practical, because my (business) partner would need equal access to the website, which is definitely not possible at this point in time. Also, given that this will mean I’ll have to bargain with Bil, my mum’s (not-business) partner, I don’t think that will happen anytime soon.

Anyway, given this aversion to DA means that it’s become a habit of mine to use livejournal, rather than the journal provided by DA, even for things relating to my artwork. As I said, I’ll (hopefully) be able to update with a bit more frequency. This will also probably change when I get a website of my own (/co-owned ). I’d like to have a set-up like MegaTokyo ([link]), where Piro & Dom have blogs on the main page. However, I am loath to get rid of my livejournal. It’s very convenient.

Possibly I could set up a good system on a webpage of my own… either way, this isn’t going to happen anytime soon. It’s at least 6 months-1 year away. At least, so don’t hold your breath.

The moral of this entry is… Sorry, my DA account is stagnant. I intend to put a few more, heavily watermarked images up. My DA Journal is also pretty much dead, but the LJ account is always active. Check there for details. :3
